Mexico: Nearly 5,000 missing children registered
The Executive Director of the Network for the Rights of Children in Mexico (Redim in spanish), Juan Martín Pérez García, reported that 4,980 children and adolescents disappeared during the government of Enrique Peña Nieto.
“When we think of disappearance in Mexico, (37,000 people according to the official record), we continue to think of adults. Even in adult males, we do not remember that more than 6,000 are children and adolescents. If we place ourselves in the age ranges of 15 to 17 years, eight out of 10 are adolescent women, “said Pérez García.
“We are deeply concerned that it remains an invisible issue, not placed on the agendas,” he warned during his participation in the National Conference for the Rights of Girls, Boys and Adolescents. The director of the Redim said that, according to available data, every day four children or adolescents disappear, and kill 3.6.
“These data in any other country would represent an international scandal, not in Mexico, just go unnoticed,” he said.
Almost 7,000 between 1995 and 2016 in Mexico
Luis Raúl González Pérez, of the National Human Rights Commission, explained that in the special report on the Disappearance of Persons and Clandestine Pits in Mexico, which was prepared last year, it was reported that between 1995 and December 2016, there was a total of 6,901 cases of missing minors.
Perez said that in the National Registry of Missing and Disappeared Persons (RNPED) it is reported that by September 2018, there are 9,672 registered cases of people from 0 to 17 years old.
“The disappearance of a girl or boy is to separate him from the protection of adults who have them in his care, and abruptly prevents his exercise; It is unacceptable that the pain and suffering caused by the uncertainty, meet with attitudes of indifference by public servants, “he said.
On April 30, civil organizations said Peña Nieto’s six-year term had the highest rate of disappearance of children and adolescents. “70% of the cases were reported during this administration,” they reported.
